My friends and I just returned from our FANTASTIC trip to Oahu for UH graduation, made even better by our stay in this AMAZING house. It's so beautiful and the views are spectacular!!!! All main living/dining areas are completely open to the ocean view, multiple patios and infinity pool. WORDS CANNOT DESCRIBE HOW WONDERFUL IT IS!!!! And the owner, Rob, is so nice and gracious and has many wonderful stories about his life on the island. Thank you Rob for your hospitality and sharing your amazing house with all of us!!!! I hope we get to stay here again sometime. My best Hawaii vacation ever!!!! Mahalo and Aloha.
As other reviewers have mentioned, this house is all about outdoor living. In the mornings we watched dolphins and turtles pass by the bottom the yard, while in the evening we watched spectacular sunsets across the bay. As you might expect for this level of property, the house is kitted-out with a great kitchen and an outdoor BBQ, while the rooms all have big TVs. When not lounging in the backyard or splashing in the pool and spa, we were able to tear ourselves away for trips into Waikiki (about 20 minutes) and hikes around Koko head and Hanauma Bay.
Im born and raised in Hawaii Kai. As a photographer/cinematographer I have been in many houses all over the islands for different shoots and I can easily say this is the best house I've ever been in. The style is impeccable. Blue Hawaii Kai has a timeless luxury feel from the lava rock tile on the pool deck to the open air rock garden as you walk in. The view of Diamond head is breathtaking and can be seen from the deck, the living room, the kitchen, and the master bedroom. I could spend hours mezmorized just watching Maunalua Bay from anywhere in the house. A quick walk down the steps and your at a secluded cove overlooking the deep blue Ocean. Theres only one way to truly experience this house and thats to do it in person. Amazing!
This beautiful place is amazing! At first I was concerned that the indoor outdoor living would means bugs and safety concerns, but it was quit the opposite. I was there for 12 days and never bit by a mosquito and I felt very safe in this gorgeous neighborhood! The yard provides easy access to China Walls where you can watch the turtles and jump in the ocean. The beautiful pool and lanai are a great place to relax and enjoy the sun in privacy or have a romantic dinner while you watch the sunset in the evening and then whatch the wales in the morning. This is my heaven on earth and I look forward to returning every year!
This March was my third time staying at this residence. My girlfriend has always asked, "why don't you want to go in to town"? One day at this house and you'll know why I respond "why would I". Even though downtown is an easy and short drive from this amazing Portlock home it's hard to leave when you have an amazing pool, a 30 second walk to China Walls and an incredible view of the ocean and Diamond Head........ even from the kitchen and living room!! If I do leave it is in a great location with easy access to Kona Brewing, Costco for BBQ supplies, wine, beer etc. and Hawaii Kai golf course which is ten minutes away as well. I have seen whales on every visit from the lanai and I look forward to my annual visit more and more every year. If you are considering a visit to Oahu do not hesitate to book this house as your destination. Even if you plan on visiting the entire island this is the perfect spot to end your day watching the sun set over Diamond Head from the hot-tub. It truly is the most amazing house I have ever had the pleasure of visiting.
First thing we fell in love with was the open floor plan, then Rob and Annie showed us the patio and the view... This is where we spent 90% of our time. We watched every sunset and even saw some whales splashing around in the ocean two days in a row. The sunsets were phenomenal. We dropped everything we were doing to be sure to watch them every night and it was quite a show. Then there is the blowhole, a cove in the shale near the shore line. The waves crash against the shore and shoot up in the air creating a thundering sound and beautiful sight. We took the pathway down to the shoreline to watch up close and found ourselves just staring for an hour. It's pretty cool. About the house as a rental. We try to rent a home whenever we travel. This is one of the best homes we ever stayed in. The home was very well kept and, besides food and drink, had everything you could possibly need. The home is private and quiet but close to a mall, Costco and restaurants. If we did need to run out for anything it was a short 10 minute drive and done. No wasting your vacation time driving for an hour and battling with crowds.Rob was more than willing to help us with any questions we had and gave us a lot of suggestions for things to do in the area. We will stay here again for sure. No question. Honestly, out of all the homes we've stayed in, I wish we could live in this home forever.
We have been coming to the Aloha state almost every year and have rented wonderful homes on Kauai and the Big Island (not to mention some luxury hotel stays). This was by far our favorite rental. When we arrived, Rob (the owner) greeted us to show us around. He was helpful with unloading our car (super helpful since I was nursing a broken shoulder). As we asked him about local take-out or delivery joints, he offered to run get us Thai food. He said, "I know what to get and how much to get." He came back with some amazing food which allowed us to get settled. In terms of the setting, you could not get better. An unobstructed view of the ocean and Diamond Head; a private trail down to the water to explore the tide pools, just around the corner from the best snorkeling beach around; close enough to Honolulu for a day trip or an evening outing; far enough away that you don't have to have any contact with Waikiki if you don't want to. Also, you can zip around to the other side of the island without venturing into downtown. Now to the house. The bedrooms were spacious and were spaced enough to allow privacy. Frequently a problem for rentals, the beds here were all comfortable. Additionally, one of the bedrooms had a little private entrance and a kitchenette which was perfect for our nanny. The openness of the home meant that there is essentially no separation between indoor and outdoor living. The pictures don't really do the layout justice or give a sense about how much this is inside/outside living. The kitchen had all the accoutrements one needed: spices, olive oil, coffee, tons of condiments and plenty of cutting boards and pots/pans. This made meal preparation so much easier. Then to the pool and the hot tub. They were great. It was hard to drag the kids away to do anything else. One problem with traveling to Hawaii in parts of winter is that most pools are not heated. This pool is heated (and heats up super quickly which means no need to leave the heat on all the time). We spent countless hours watching the kids swim and play while we enjoyed a blended drink, reading a book, watching whales/parasailers and waiting for the sun to set. All we can say is go with confidence. You have the perfect home with helpful and classy hosts.
We stayed in this beautiful place during spring break with my 7 and 3 year old grandchildren. The home has a great view that we never experienced before and the house is located in one of the best neighborhoods, steps away from the water. Something you can't feel it in Waikiki.
The house also has great floor plan with each of the 4 bedrooms having its own bathroom for privacy as well as a laundry room, and a little den. Roomy dining area and outside BBQ grill by swimming pool is the perfect setup.
Enjoy the pool while watching whales! Breathtaking sunsets too. The shopping mall is very close by and though I didn't have to go any place other than this beautiful vacation home. I truly enjoyed. Unforgettable memories.
